THE THIRD DECLENSION
Most of the remaining nouns belong to the third declension. Unlike the first and second declensions, the pattern for the third does not consist of a stem followed by a set of endings (Domin-us, sacrament-um, ecclesi-a etc), The basic form 1 or nominative, and form 2 the vocative do not have distinctive endings, while the other forms are based on form 4, the possessive or genitive. That is why Latin dictionaries give the genitive of nouns alongside the nominative, for example pater/patris father, vox/vocis, voice
